Do Environmental Regulation and Foreign Direct Investment Drive Regional Air Pollution in China?

With economic development, air pollution is becoming increasingly serious, which affects the sustainable development of global economy. In order to explore policy measures curb pollution, this paper selects data from 30 regions in China and explores their impact studies on perspectives environmental regulation foreign direct investment using a systematic GMM model. Then, threshold effect model selected verify nonlinear relationship. The conclusions are as follows: (1) Environmental does not pass significance test. There no significant “U-shaped” or “inverted U-shaped” relationship between pollution. eastern region, there an inverted U-shaped relationship, consistent with Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis, central western higher than region China. (2) entry (FDI) aggravates problem China, overall status quo haven shows FDI have any relationships. other two show pollution; these still left half curve, increase capital will lead aggravation quo. (3) industrial structure aggravate whole country regions; suppression effect, but significant. Urbanization exacerbates has insignificant region. level increases all regions. expansion population size brings large amount production living research can provide theoretical references for regional policies control
